Muse Escapes is a family run business; Laura and James (Husband and Wife) wanted to create luxurious places for you to stay. Castleton and Buxton seemed the perfect place to showcase the surroundings of the Peak District, which attracts over 10 million visitors a year.
More about the Peak District
Founded as a National Park in 1951, the Peak District is without a doubt one of the best places to visit in the UK. It is one of England’s 10 National Parks and spreads across 555 square miles of THE most beautiful land. This land consists of remote moorland, deep valleys, glistening lakes and atmospheric caverns.
However, it doesn’t stop there. It is full of historic houses, ancient stone villages and grand monuments. It is the perfect backdrop for a huge variety of outdoor activities.
So, where is this amazing place?
It is located at the southern end of the Pennine mountains in the North-West of the country and spans across a wide area. It is surrounded by densely populated lowlands and at its boundary edges lie the popular cities of Manchester to the north-west and Sheffield to the north-east, with Chesterfield and Matlock to the east and south east respectively, and Wirksworth, Ashbourne & the Potteries to the south & south west.
The natural beauty of the Peak District National Park is defined by two contrasting landscapes. There are the rolling hills of the limestone White Peak and the rugged moorland of the dramatically named Dark Peak.
Both are a haven for nature lovers, photographers and walkers alike. You will be mesmerised by the footpaths and trails dominating the inspiring terrain, offering breath taking views around almost every turn.

We carefully selected our accommodations with you in mind. Do you dream of leaving your lovely house and heading for pure luxury? Well, that is exactly what we wanted to create.
Buxton was our first purchase, a massive project that I will come back to. It is not ready yet, but it is definitely one to look out for towards the end of 2022. We are both so excited to share this little bit of heaven with you.
This property is called Foxlow Grange and it is currently a labour of love, as it is the biggest renovation project we have taken on. It is coming along nicely though and once it is finished we are sure it will capture your heart as quickly as it captured ours.
We never stop, because we are so passionate about what we do…
What do I mean?
You don’t know us yet, but when you do you will understand what I mean by ‘we don’t stop’.
Our passion is for you to come to properties you dream of, enabling you to make memories of a lifetime, in the MOST fantastic properties.
Once we had purchased Buxton, I (Laura) became fascinated by the beautiful accommodation in the Peak District. From being young I have always loved Castleton and the beautiful stone-built cottages around the village.
Castleton is one of the most beautifully situated villages in the White Peak of the Peak District and it is the only place in the world where you will find the semi-precious stone ‘Blue John’ which is unique to Derbyshire.
This stone is just beautiful, and I am sure you will share my view when you visit the cave. Yes, you read that correctly. Castleton has so much to offer. I promise I will share more about it with you, but for now I just wanted to share how we ended up with another luxury property in an absolutely stunning area of this beautiful village.
It is here we found the beautiful accommodation, called Candle House. Wow is all I can say!
More about Candle House
This beautiful property was built in 1861 and set in a third of an acre of the most beautiful gardens. The property itself is 142 square metres set over 3 floors. It certainly has the wow factor. There are a total of 6 rooms in the property including 4 bedrooms, a lounge and a kitchen. Of course, all with spectacular views.
The gardens boast views in all directions up to Peveril Castle, towards Mam Tor, Lose Hill and far-reaching views down the valley to Bamford Edge.
Did I also mention you can see all of these whilst relaxing in our beautiful hot tub, situated next to its own bar? Really, you can.
You seriously have to come and experience this place to grasp the absolute beauty of this hidden gem.
Not forgetting Foxlow Grange
I have to say this is just a teaser for you. However, we needed to share a little about this beauty.
This fabulous property, in the not-so-distant future, will comprise of apartments; some with hot tubs, others designed with the Muse Escapes stylish décor.
You will not be disappointed by this absolute diamond property. We have already got people booking their retreats here, as well as couples for that luxurious pamper weekend. I can honestly say we are so excited by this property and we can’t wait to welcome our guests to come and stay here.
